BUSINESS COMPUTER PROGRAMMING
SYLLABUS

COURSE DESCRIPTION
The purpose of the course business computer programming is to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to create, debug, and maintain computer programs. JAVA will be the primary programming language used in this course, but the students will also be exposed to other programming languages and software.

Students implement personal and interpersonal skills to strengthen individual performance in the workplace and in society and to make a successful transition to the workforce and/or post-secondary education. Students analyze the social responsibility of business and industry regarding the significant issues relating to the environment, ethics, health, safety, and diversity in society and in the workplace. Students apply technical skills to address business applications of emerging technologies. Students develop a foundation in the economical, financial, technological, international, social, and ethical aspects of business to become competent consumers, employees, and entrepreneurs. Students enhance reading, writing, computing, communications, and reasoning skills and apply them to the business environment.
CLASSROOM RULES AND PROCEDURES
A record will be kept when students do not adhere to the following rules and procedures. Failure to follow the rules will result in detentions or more serious actions as necessary.
RULES AND PROCEDURES:
*Show respect for everyone (classmates, teachers, and visitors).
*Bring all needed materials to class (no passes back to locker).
*Be on time for class and in your seat when the bell rings. Do not leave
class without permission except in cases of sudden illness.
*Exercise proper care for the equipment and supplies.
*Clear work area before leaving.
*Raise hand to get floor before speaking.
*Dismissed by the teacher, not the bell.
*No food or drink in classroom (this includes gum and candy).
Bring a folder (with brads and pockets) for all assignments and handouts. You should always bring a pen and paper to class.
Personal use of the computers should be limited. Do not bring earphones/earbuds to class.
Do not access or attempt to access social networking sites (myspace, facebook, chatrooms, etc.).
Do not download music files or game files to the computer.
GRADING POLICY:
Daily work 65%
* Folder 5%
** Tests/Projects 30%
Late daily work and folders will be accepted but full credit will not be given. The student's grade for that assignment will be deducted 10 points for every day the assignment is late.
*At the end of each six weeks period, a cumulative folder (portfolio) will be graded. You are expected to keep all handouts, assignments, and projects throughout the year in a neat and organized fashion.
**Projects will not be assigned every six weeks.
CHEATING--Students will not cheat or copy the work of another student. If a student cheats, he/she will receive a zero for the assignment grade and a minimum of one day of ISS will be given. Those who allow other students to cheat or copy their work could receive the same punishment.
