COURSE DESCRIPTION AND GOALS:

An introduction to the background, basis for and evolution of both the American and Texas political system. It is the goal of this course for the student to learn about the basic institutions of the American and Texas state government system; to include the functions, purposes and basic procedures of these institutions as they govern the nation and the state. The student will also learn how the political process affects and influences these governments.

TRANSFERABILITIY:

Both the American Government and the State & Local Government course may be transferred to a 4-year college upon successful completion of the courses with a final grade of "C" or better. (Transferable passing grades will vary from college to college.)

MAKE-UP TESTS:

There will be up to a 10 point grade deduction for make-up tests, with the maximum value of a make-up test being 90. Make-up tests must be taken the following class period; and may be different from the regularly scheduled tests.

CLASS ATTENDANCE POLICY:

Prompt and regular class attendance is required. Normal high school attendance policy and requirements will pertain to this class. When absences occur, the student must be prepared and is required to make up work during the next class period - especially all missed tests.

STUDENT BEHAVIOR:

In this class, all students are expected and required to conduct themselves in a courteous manner at all times, respectful of others. The honor system will be used in this class; however, students will be expected and are required to do their own work at all times. There will be zero tolerance regarding cheating on exams or utilizing another student's work assignments. Individuals caught cheating will receive a "0" on the exam and may be dismissed from the college-credit portion of the class with a failing grade.
